  • Gamete donation is the donation of gametes, either eggs or sperm for use in couples who are unable to use their own.
  • Strict ICMR guidelines should be followed and consent documented.

Use of donor sperm

  • Where the male partner has very poor or nil sperm counts, donor sperm from certified sperm banks are used in IUI or IVF cycles.

Use of donor egg

  • Where the female partner has low number or very poor quality of eggs, donor eggs are used in IVF cycles.

Use of donor embryos

  • Where defects are present in the gametes of both partners.
