KARYOTYPE

• The number and appearance of chromosomes in the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell
• The term is also used to denote a test that can detect deviations from the normal number and formation of chromosomes.
• Normally, human cells have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs.

Indications :

• Intersex
• Recurrent Pregnancy loss
• Azoospermia
• Amniocentesis and testing of the fluid to detect genetic problems in the baby.
