MENSTRUAL CYCLE:
- The menstrual cycle is the monthly series of changes a woman’s body goes through in preparation for the possibility of pregnancy.
- Normal cycle length is every 21 to 35 days and lasting for 2-7 days
CAUSES OF IRREGULAR MENSTRUAL CYCLE (IRREGULAR PERIODS):
- Pregnancy
- Breast feeding
- Eating disorder
- Excessive weight gain or weight loss
- PCOS
- Excess physical or mental stress.
MULTIPLE PREGNANCY
- It is a condition where the woman is carrying more than one baby in the womb. It may be twins, triplets or more.
- It is a very common condition associated with Assisted Reproductive Treatment.g
Types:
- Dizygotic or Non identical Twins:
- Results from the fertilization of two ova.
- Monozygotic or identical twins:
- Results from the fertilization of single ova.
Complications:
- Excessive nausea and vomiting
- Increased risk of pregnancy induced hypertension
- Increased risk of gestational diabetes
- Increased fluid levels (hydramnios)
- Pre-term labour
- Post-partum haemorrhage
Pre Natal Care Plan:
- Increased nutrition
- Increased rest
- More frequent pre natal visits
- Monthly ultrasounds
- Tocolytic Medicines to prevent early labour.
- Steroid Injections to accelerate lung maturity.
